The Pittsfield Suns kick off their 2019 season in two and half weeks, and if the promotional schedule offers any hints, the Berkshires are in for a bright season. Shining at Wahconah Park this summer will be fireworks shows, all-stars, and even some diamonds... on the diamond.
“We’ve got a lot to celebrate this summer,” said general manager Michael Lieberman. “This season will be a ten-week party, and everyone in the Berkshires is invited!”
The season kicks off with a bang on Thursday, May 30, with the first of five postgame fireworks shows. Fans can also catch postgame pyrotechnics after games on June 22 and August 2. The Suns will also anchor the city’s Independence Day celebration with a massive fireworks display after the team’s July 4 contest against the North Shore Navigators.
And the fifth fireworks show? That’s reserved for Tuesday, July 16, when the Suns host the 2019 Futures League All-Star Game. The league’s best of the best will gather at Wahconah Park for a midsummer spectacle, including a pregame home run derby and a postgame fireworks spectacular.
“The Suns are ecstatic to be hosting the All-Star Game,” commented Lieberman. “The league’s best players and major league scouts in Pittsfield, with the top sluggers teeing off in the home run derby. Then we get to top it off with a special postgame fireworks show!
“We can’t wait to put on a show the league will be proud of.”
This summer also represents Wahconah Park’s 100th anniversary, and the team plans to celebrate throughout the season. Every Wednesday home game will be a “Wahconah Turns 100” T-shirt giveaway, each one commemorating a different team from the ballpark’s last century. All four T-shirt giveaways are presented by Greylock Federal Credit Union and Greylock Insurance Agency.
Wahconah Park’s birthday won’t be the only party this summer. The team’s loveable mascot, Ray, will celebrate his birthday with the Suns faithful on June 24. The team will also shift the calendar to celebrate Halloween (July 7) and Christmas (July 25) over the summer.
The season marks the return of several fan favorites, as well as new promotion the team looks forward to making an annual event. The annual School Day game, presented by Greylock Federal Credit Union and Greylock Insurance Agency, will take place on June 4 at 10:30 AM. Fans can bring their four-legged friends to the stadium on June 15 for Bark in the Park, presented by Pittsfield Veterinary Hospital.
The team’s newest promotion will send one lucky lady home with a whole lotta sparkle. The first annual Diamond Dash is scheduled for July 27, when all women in attendance will be invited to the field to compete for a very special prize. The winner will take home a spectacular pair of diamond earrings, courtsey of Hannoush Jewelers.
