SUNS KICK OFF 2017 SEASON AT WAHCONAH PARK WITH COMEBACK VICTORY 4-1 OVER THE BLUES

Saturday was for the boys as the boys of summer in Pittsfield returned to Wahconah Park in dramatic fashion. The Pittsfield Suns (3-0) downed the Bristol Blues (0-3) with four runs in the 8th to come out on top 4-1 over the Blues.

The Blues struck first in the fourth. After Griffin Garabedian bunted his way on to first with a fielding error by the pitcher, reached second on a passed ball, and Jake Frasca knocked him in with an RBI single.

The Suns struggled on offense except for the hometown kid, Kevin Donati. Donati had all of the Suns' hits until the 8th, where he continues to shine; smacking a leadoff double to right-center field. That's when the bats came alive! Following a walk to Justin Cooke and a single for Zack Smith to load the bases, with one out, Scott Holzwasser ripped a bases-clearing triple into deep right field. He didn't sit on third base for long, as the next batter Sean Phelan slapped an RBI single to right field to put an insurance run in.

The big guy Drew Marino toed the rubber for the Suns for the home opener against the Blues's Ross Weiner in a true blue pitching dual. Marino pitched seven innings, giving up an unearned run, one walk, four hits, and struck out 8 batters. He was saddled with a no decision.

Tyler Brett (1-0) got the win coming in relief, pitching a perfect 8th with a strikeout. Nick Rubino (0-1) was given the loss. After he loaded the bases, Tyler Kovalewich, whom relieved him, gave up the big three-RBI three-bagger to Holzwasser. Craig Lacey recorded his second save of the season, facing the minimum in the 9th to close it out.

The Elser Animal Control Pest Player of the Game went to the hometown kid, Kevin Donati, who went 4-4 at the dish with three singles, 2 steals, and a double that sparked the offense in the 8th.

The Pittsfield Suns are on the road for Sunday, June 4th, facing off against division rival Worcester Bravehearts. It will be Brandon Shileikis on the mound against the Bravehearts' Jakob Barker. The Pittsfield Suns return to Wahconah Park on Tuesday, June 6th against the Bristol Blues in the annual morning School Day. Gates open at 9:30 AM with the game starting at 10:30 AM.
