Lake Monsters drown the SUNS

PITTSFIELD, Mass.- The Pittsfield Suns were unable to stay out of the error column again on the night as they would fall to the red-hot Vermont Lake Monsters who have now won 15 out of their last 16 games. The Suns have dropped three in a row.

Pittsfield surrendered the first run of the ball game on an error by Joel Lara to score Vermont’s first run of the evening. Pittsfield would respond for three runs of their own, thanks to a two RBI single from the Suns hottest hitter in Javier Rosales. Rosales was able to get a fastball on the outside part of the plate and take it into left field, scoring two for the Suns. SP Kyle Roache was dealing through the first four inning before running into trouble in the top of the 5th for the Suns.

Vermont was able to get to Roache in the top of the 5th, as Roache surrendered five fifth inning runs which included a two RBI single from Andrew Bergeron, followed by a two RBI double from Anthony Stephan to blow the game open for Vermont. An RBI single from Pittsfield’s Brendan Jones gave the Suns a little hope in the bottom half of the inning, as Pittsfield saw themselves down 6-4. Pittsfield was unable to get key pitching in the 6th as a big three run home run to straight center field did the Suns in by Ethan Anderson. Anderson connects on a home run for the third time this season, giving Vermont the 9-4 lead.

The top of the order would bounce back for two runs for the Suns in the 7th giving Pittsfield a little bit of life when Jackson Appel and Brendan Jones each had RBIs each in the inning. The Suns would continue to threaten but would settle for just two runs in the inning, trailing Vermont 9-6.

An added insurance run for the Lake Monster’s in the 9th inning but the Suns in a difficult position at a comeback as Matt DePrey walked with the bases loaded to give Vermont the 10-6 lead, a lead they would not give up. Pittsfield went down 1-2-3 in the 9th, dropping their third straight game in a row, second straight from Wahconah Park. Vermont continues their winning ways, having gone 9-1 in their last 10 games, while Pittsfield drops their third straight and seventh in their last ten games. Pittsfield will face the league’s top team tomorrow evening in Brockton to take on the Rox. The Lake Monster’s head to New Britain to take on the Bees from New Britain Stadium tomorrow night for a 6:35 pm first pitch.
