PITTSFIELD, MA (February 22, 2017) – Matt Gedman will take over as Head Coach for the Pittsfield Suns this Summer. Former Heach Coach, Tom Conley, has resigned due to increased duties with his current coaching job at Harvard University.   Gedman, a product of Framingham, Massachusetts, played baseball for the University of Massachusetts, Amherst from 2009-2011, before being drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2011. The first baseman played four seasons in the Red Sox minor league system, making it as high as the Salem Red Sox (Advanced-A).   Gedman has spent the past two summers with the Suns as an Assistant Coach.

Gedman is happy to be back in Pittsfield and have the chance to lead the Suns, “I am excited to be coming back to Pittsfield again this Summer.  I look forward to working with a talented team, in a great community and hopefully we can win a championship this Summer!”

Gedman’s father, Rich Gedman, is a former Red Sox catcher and current hitting coach for the AAA Pawtucket Red Sox. After experiencing professional baseball, players may be able to use Gedman’s experience to propel them and the 2017 Suns to the next level.

Suns General Manager, Kristen Huss, is thrilled to promote Gedman to Head Coach.  “Coach Gedman is a tremendous asset to the Suns, his hard work and dedication makes him a strong leader on and off the field.  He does an incredible job working with our players and helping them improve their skills.  I look forward to working with him this coming Summer!”

The Suns 2017 home opener is scheduled for June 3 at 7PM at Wahconah Park, with post-game fireworks.  They begin the season on the road Thurs. June 1st in Wachussett.
